Hi there, My name is Zoe Reichental and I am currently studying for a Masters in University College Dublin in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics. I am delighted to be taking part in a volunteering and educational development programme where I’ll be volunteering in Kisiizi hospital, Uganda for 1-month next summer (July 2020). I will be working as a Dietitian, assessing people at risk of malnutrition and providing nutritional advice, particularly with a group of children and their guardians, during a two-week Cerebral Palsy camp. I will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing any support we can in the hospital and community. UCDVO is a registered charity which provides UCD students, staff and alumni the opportunity to engage in a year-long volunteering and development education programme, for the benefit of disadvantaged communities overseas in response to needs explicitly identified by those communities. Throughout the next year, I will participate in a series of UCDVO Programme Days, including development education workshops, health & safety training and team-building activities before travelling overseas. I am seeking to raise €2,650 which covers the entire project and then any money raised in excess of this will go towards resources such as medical equipment and educational supplies. Breakdown of funding costs: Volunteer Participation, Average Costs: €1,450 - flights, accommodation, main meals, visas, insurance, local transport. Project, Average Costs: €1,200 - These funds are allocated to the costs of the project i.e. construction of schools, houses, educational resources, physiotherapy equipment etc. We are alsorunning a comedy event in the Laughter Lounge (8 Eden Quay, North City, Dublin 1, Ireland) to raise money on Thursday the 30th of January 2020 (doors open at 7pm, show starts at 8:30pm) with 4 great comedians and a late-night bar with DJ. Tickets are €25 and all proceeds go towards the project.
