I'm very honoured to have been selected as one of the physiotherapy students to travel to an orphanage in Southeast India this upcoming June for 4 weeks as my final placement while studying my Masters of Physiotherapy in Ireland! I will be volunteering at an orphange called Asha Jyothi where we will be providing physiotherapy treatment to children who have been abandoned as a result of their mental and physical disabilities such as; cerebral palsy, down syndrome, epilepsy, polio, and developmental delays. Our physiotherapy team will be living at the orphanage providing physiotherapy treatment and aim to leave a long lasting change with these children. Our goal is to assist these children with mobility, provide neurological rehabilitation, and help the children reach their full potential.  We will also provide educational services throughout the community regarding overall health and physical therapy. I have committed to a year long development education program with the UCD Volunteers Overseas Charity for the benefit of physiotherapy in disadvantaged communities in India. I'm very excited about this opportunity and ask for your help in fundraising a total of €2,650 that will go towards funding my participation at the orphanage, physiotherapy equipment such as wheelchairs and splints for the children, and expanding the orphanage's physiotherapy gym. Any little bit helps no matter how big or small, it will help make a huge difference in these children's lives!
