Hello everyone! My name is Tess and I'm a social science student in UCD. This summer I've been given the opportunity to volunteer in Assam in North-East India with UCDVO.  UCD Volunteer Oversea is a registered charity that carries out development projects in countries such as Uganda, Tanzania, Nicaragua , Haiti and India.  In June, I will be travelling to Assam alongside other UCD student volunteers to teach much needed english classes to women and children and  run information workshops regarding  domestic violence , alcoholism and other challenging issues in this region.  Assam suffers the highest rates of violence against women in India so these workshops are vital to help  protect and educate these women.  We will be working alongside other volunteer masters students from Assam Don Bosco University, Guwahti. We will also be refurbishing and rebuilding  Anganwadies , which are preschool type facilities which also run as information centres regarding contraception and womens hygiene.In order to make this possible I have to raise  2,600 euro. I will be trying my best to raise funds personally but will also be running fundraising events throughout the year in order to generate donations.  I would really love to be able to make a difference to the lives of these people in Assam.  Your support will be greatly appreciated  and will go a long way in improving their lives! Please donate to this cause and do your bit to make a difference while helping me to do mine!
