Hello everybody, as many of you know, back in 2019 I made the decision to join Mustard Seed Communities on a journey to Jamaica, to volunteer as part of a skilled group of adult volunteers. When most of us think of Jamaica, we think of sun, sea and relaxation. Unfortunately this is not the case. The trip I took in 2019 opened both my mind and my heart. Mainly based in and around Kingston, Jamaica, Mustard Seed Communities cares for the most vulnerable members of society (mustardseedireland.ie). I truly felt honoured and humbled to be part of a small group of volunteers back in 2019.This November I am going back to Jamaica, to volunteer for the second time (unfortunately covid has not permitted I return before this). I am so grateful for the opportunity to give back yet again. One of many memories that stands out for me, is sitting in a small church whilst the children that MSC cares for so wonderfully, sang (if they could) and clapped (if they could) as they gave thanks for all that they had. Thanks to their carers, thanks to all the support they receive from around the world and thanks for their lifes. Thinking back to that moment still sends shivers down my spine.
