My Story
Hi everyone, my name is Shane and I am a first year law student at University College Dublin. This year I have been lucky enough to have recieved the opportunity to travel to Nicaragua on a developmental project with UCD Volunteers Overseas. Together with 20 other volunteers I will spend 4 weeks in the poverty stricken village of Somoto where we will partake in both infrastructural and educational developmental projects to help increase the quality of life in the area. These projects will be run in conjunction with a number of local NGOs such as INPRHU, Xomothl and MCN. Since its foundation the Nicaragua project has been hugely successful and has resulted in the construction of Health centers in Santa Isabela and El Kairo , drip irrigation systems in many local communities, a pre-school and primary school in Las Palmiras and a Library in Los Quinchos.Every volunteer is responsible for raising a sum of 2,600 euros to fund project costs and volunteer training. I will be conducting a series of fundraising events to try and meet this target. However, your help would be greatly appreciated. Please donate whatever you can. Your donation is transfered directly into the UCDVO account where it can have immediate effect.I appreciate each and every donation and no sum is ever too small .Please help us continue the positive tradition that the Nicaragua project has established and let us build upon its success.
