My Story

About Us, UCDVO has formed a partnership with Nurture Africa, an Irish-founded, globally registered NGO that works in Uganda to improve healthcare, education, child protection, gender equality, and economic empowerment through business training and microfinance programs. In Nansana, Wakiso District, Uganda, the Nurture Africa Health Centre provides quality specialist pediatric HIV and primary health care to the most vulnerable HIV/AIDS infected and affected children, as well as their HIV+parents/guardians. Members of UCDVO help support  Nurture Africa's initiatives by conducting fundraising events/campaigns and providing workshops on small businesses and microloans concepts to improve livelihood in  Uganda. UCDVO’s vision is to provide the UCD Community to have an in-depth understanding of the challenges facing humanity worldwide, and the determination and commitment to tackle issues underlying global poverty and inequality. UCDVO – Nurture Africa Partnership was formed in 2015, UCDVO volunteers have traveled to Nansana, Uganda to support Nurture Africa’s community health and livelihoods program. UCDVO and Nurture Africa host a 4-week rehabilitation camp for children with disabilities and their families. This camp includes physiotherapy, public health, and nutrition assessments and interventions, alongside workshops and capacity building. The physiotherapy and nutrition/dietetics students are supervised by a clinical tutor and Nurture Africa staff. UCDVO volunteers also support livelihood activities, including small businesses and microloans. Nurture Africa also run a Vocational Training Centre for young adults, providing free education to 140 students per year.
