My Story
Hello everyone! I am delighted to announce that I will be travelling alongside a team of 5 Physiotherapy students and one Chartered Physiotherapist to Andhra Pradesh in South India this Summer, as part of one of the UCD Volunteer Overseas Healthcare Projects. This is our Physiotherapy elective placement. We will spend 4 weeks volunteering at the Asha Jyothi Handicapped Welfare Society Centre for children who have been orphaned or abandoned due to HIV/AIDS or extreme poverty. Here, we will aid the staff to rehab children with disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy, Polio, Downs Syndrome and various other developmental and physical impairments. We will also participate in many programmes in the local community, including home visits to local families to provide them with support and education. As a volunteer, I am required to raise a minimum of €1400 which will go directly to the project. These funds will allow our team to carry out our therapies effectively, will go towards the project resources and will also go towards the cost of neccessary physiotherapy equipment such as wheelchairs, walking aids and gym equipment. Furthermore, the funds will help to maintain other healthcare resources, which we hope will continue once we leave. Any donations no matter how small would be greatly appreciated. Every cent will help to make a difference to these childrens lives. I promise that your donation is going towards an amazing cause. Thank you in advance. Rose x
