Hi everyone. As a third year physiotherapy student I have been given the opportunity to travel to Uganda this summer with UCDVO  and complete a four week clinical placement at the Nuture Africa Health Centre in Nansana. UCDVO and Nurture Africa are engaged in providing access to healthcare, education, sustainable livelihoods and child welfare for vulnerable families in Nansana. As a student physio, I will be part of a team working to provide acute and advanced rehab services to children with disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy, continuing to build on the provision of support to local physiotherapy and rehab staff in the community. We will also be working with the primary care team there to provide health education workshops for children and families on issues such as sanitation and disability awareness and inclusion. As part of the programme, I need to raise €2,650. Roughly €1,650 of this will go directly into the project. This means it will go towards all of the rehab equipment for the children and the camp, wheelchairs, walking aids, specialised seating, materials for sanitary pads and so much more.
