My Story
My name is Ollie. In April 2018 and February 2019 I fulfilled a lifelong ambition to visit Africa, I was part of a group to travel to Zambia with Alan Kerins Africa Projects, to see first hand several of the many projects our wonderful Irish Charities are involved in and I become actively involved in supporting the work underway as well as fundraising to support these projects in Zambia. In February 2018 I returned to work as a volunteer at Cheshire Home, a truely magic experience. In just over a decade, Galway sports star Alan Kerins and his volunteers have raised close to €25 million to end poverty and suffering of tens of thousands of people in rural Southern Africa. In 2015 Alan teamed up with Gorta-Self Help Africa, and in partnership is supporting Gorta programmes to end hunger and poverty in Africa. The projects are all based on the Gorta Self Help projects based in Zambia, aiming to alleviate poverty and developing self sustaining projects. Futher details on all the projects where you funding is aimed at can be found here. https://selfhelpafrica.org/ie/zambia. The proceeds of all the events I will be organising will be going towards supporting the Self Help Africa projects Zambia and also to fund materials, both education and construction. In 2020 I am returning to Mongo to volunteer at Cheshire Home and bring some music and joy along the way. I will also be bringing the accordion and other musican volunteers and between us the "Siege of Ennis" will be taught and performed , the "Fields of Athenry" will ring out and we can engage in song and dance with the children of Zambia. Any support you can provide will make a huge difference. Thank you!
