Hi, my name is Niamh! I’m currently studying a MSc in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics in UCD. I’ve been lucky enough to be given the opportunity to participate in a project with UCD Volunteer Overseas in July 2020. The Kisiizi project will take place in the Church of Uganda Kisiizi hospital - a 250 Bed Private Not for Profit (PNFP) Health Care Provider. It’s mission is about “bringing holistic healthcare and life in all its fullness to the staff, patients, clients and visitors in the Hospital and community.” It is located in rural Rukungiri district of South Western Uganda, one of the nine priority countries of Irish Aid. As part of this project I will be working in a multi-disciplinary team of physiotherapists, nutrition/dietetic, medical and nursing students completing a wide range of projects including malnutrition screening, a disability camp for children with cerebral palsy and their families, educational workshops on a range of topics including nutrition and first aid, outreach and development projects at the hospital and local primary school, and renovation and refurbishment projects. UCDVO is a registered charity and was founded in 2002. Each volunteer is asked to raise €2650 which will go toward much needed project costs such as education resources, physiotherapy equipment and medical supplies. Any donations to support this project would be kindly appreciated.
