Hi all, I am so lucky and so delighted to have been given the opportunity to be part of the UCD Volunteers Overseas programme this year. This summer, I will travel to Nansana, Uganda with a team of 15 UCD healthcare students, where we will spend four weeks volunteering in collaboration with an amazing Irish NGO called Nurture Africa. Our team consists of student physiotherapists, nurses, midwives and nutritionists and we will be based  in a  community healthcare centre in Nansana. I will be working with four of my physiotherapy classmates and qualified physio working with Nurture Africa to provide physiotherapy for the community, including a two week rehabilitation camp for children with cerebral palsy. In order to travel, we have been asked to raise a minimum of 1,300euro  which will be used for physiotherapy equipment such as splints, wheelchairs and specialised seating, as well as providing us with the educational resources needed to work with the families of the children we treat so that they can continue to manage their child's condition when we leave. (This money does not include any personal travel costs such as flights, vaccines or insurance as I intend to cover my own expenses myself!)The programme does not end with our 4weeks in Nansana. When we return, we will continue to work with UCDVO and Comhlámh to raise awareness for the charity and global healthcare issues.Any donation, big or small, would be hugely appreciated in helping me reach my target!
