My Story

Hello everyone, thank you very much for clicking on this link and considering making a donation. This year, I'm participating in the UCDVO Volunteer Programme, which includes 4-week voluntary placement with the Holy Union Sisters based in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. UCDVO is a registered charity that provides UCD students, staff and alumni with the opportunity to engage in a volunteer programme for the benefit of disadvantaged communities overseas, in response to needs explicitly identified by those communities. The Holy Union is a congregation of sisters from Tanzania, Kenya and Europe working in Education and Social Welfare. The Sisters run a registered non-governmental organisation called the Matumaini Centre for children with disabilities - offering rehabilitation, education, nutrition and livelihood support in Dar es Salaam. The Holy Union Sisters are also involved in providing quality education for to up to 10,000 children and young people. As a physiotherapy student, I'll work with a small team of volunteers to carry out assessments of children, develop rehabilitation plans, provide advice for parents on how to support their child’s development and learn about systems and procedures to run the centre. The fundraising target is €1850 and will be used to support UCDVO’s overseas partners to run vital health, education and livelihoods programmes and projects. I'll personally cover the costs of the flights, visa and vaccinations. Therefore, I'd be extremely grateful if you would consider making a donation to support my fundraising efforts and the children with disabilities helped by the Holy Union Sisters. For more information about the organisation and the project, please visit https://www.ucdvo.org/wherewework/tanzania/. I'm delighted to answer any questions or provide additional information. Thank you, Megan Bertrands
