Next summer I have been given the opportunity to volunteer in Ferrando Speech and Hearing Centre in North East India as part of my Physiotherapy elective placement. I will be travelling with the UCDVO Volunteering & Development Education Programme, a component of which is a 4 week voluntary placement. I will travel with 3 other UCD Physiotherapy students and a chartered physiotherapist.  Here we will be working in a residential camp to give special care to children with hearing and visual impairments and other disabilities.  The Centre gives special care for the prevention and reduction of the effects of preventable hearing impairment in young children through early identification, intervention and pre-school education. Besides catering to the children, we will also work towards the empowerment of the families of hearing impaired children to face the challenges in bringing up their hearing impaired children. Some of the works undertaken by the institution are Early Intervention, Education, Rehabilitation, Vocational Training and manpower development for the Hearing Impaired, Vision unit, Orthotic, Prosthetic and Physiotherapy unit. As a UCDVO volunteer I am required to raise €2650. With your support we hope to provide physiotherapy services to the children and run educational workshops for staff and parents. Funds raised will help provide physiotherapy equipment and other healthcare resources and services which we hope will be continued when we leave the project.I have set up a fundraising page below, where any donation will be accepted and hugely appreciated.
