Hi, my name is Lucy McGloin and I am a second year Biomedical and Biomolecular Sciences student in UCD. I am thrilled to say that in conjunction with the University, I will be volunteering for the month of June for the Matumaini Centre in the region of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This is a registered non – profit organisation for children with both intellectual and physical disabilities. The Matumaini Health Centre was set up by the Holy Union of Sisters as a safe environment where mothers and carers can come with their children to avail of supports, rehabilitation and respite. We are a team of 11, including 2 clinical tutors, 2 team leaders and a range of health science students from different nationalities and backgrounds. In this poor district of Dar es Salaam, we will be assisting the Mutamaini Centre staff in carrying out health assessments of children, developing rehabilitation plans along with offering additional guidance for parents on how they can support their child's  physical and intellectual wellbeing. With your support we will be able provide much needed assistance with the overall running of the centre enabling it to continue to provide education and resources for families.  I  am truly honoured to be a part of this incredible project and I would be extremely grateful for donations through my fundraising page below.
