Hello! My name is Lisa Mulryan and I am currently studying MSc Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics at UCD. I have the absolute pleasure to volunteer with UCD Volunteers Overseas for four weeks, in July 2020. I will be travelling to Tanzania to volunteer on a pilot programme based in the Matumaini Centre, Dar Es Salaam. The Matumaini Centre was established in 2010 by the Holy Union Sisters and has currently over 1000 disabled children and their parents registered to their daycare services.  I will be travelling with a group of other UCD volunteers to form a small multidisciplinary team of nutrition/dietetics, physiotherapy, medical/nursing and public health.  We will be assessing the children's needs and providing capacity support as needed to local staff. This will include malnutrition screening, physiotherapy and play therapy, as well as educational workshops for parents and children on a range of topics including nutrition, first aid, sexual education. We also hope to educate the locals to help reduce the stigma surrounding disabilities. UCDVO is a registered charity and was founded in 2002. Each volunteer is asked to raise €2,600 to participate in UCDVO projects.  The fundraising target is broken down into €1,400 for volunteer participation costs (flights, accommodation, training, local transport) and €1,200 for the costs of the project (eg. educational resources, physiotherapy equipment). One of which will be a comedy gig in the Laughter Lounge, Dublin, on the 30th of January.
