UCDVO(UCD volunteering overseas) 1. UCDVO is a registered charity (CHY15856) based atUniversity College Dublin.2. UCDVO has three full-time staff members, all ofwhom are currently funded byUniversity College Dublin and external grants, not viacharitable donations.3. UCDVO has a voluntary Board of Trustees which isresponsible for the governance andfinancial oversight of the charity. Board members donot receive any financial payment fortheir work.4. UCDVO provides opportunities for approximately 110volunteers annually to work oncommunity development projects in India, Tanzania andUganda. All volunteers take partin a one-year programme of development education,awareness raising, and trainingevents before and after their placement overseas.UCDVO firmly believes that studentshave an important role to play in the area of globaldevelopment and this programmeenables students to become active global citizens,while also enhancing their own careerprospects.5. Individuals taking part in the annual Volunteering& Development EducationProgramme carry out fundraising activities to supportthe development projectsundertaken by UCDVO and international partners. Thefunds raised by volunteers coverboth the volunteer participation costs and the costsof the community developmentprojects which are implemented by volunteers inpartnership with local communityorganisations in the respective countries. Projectsare reviewed on an annual basis.6. General donations to the charity are allocated towider activitiesundertaken by UCDVO. All expenditure is overseen bythe UCDVO FinanceCommittee. My RoleTaking part in this programme, I will be travelling to Ruahain Tanzania to work at a school for 4 weeks in the summer of 2020. UCD works inpartnership with a Tanzanian NGO TanzED. Previous groups that have worked therehave worked on many things such as on computer education programmes, classroomrefurbishments, summer camos for children, the distribution of books and educationalresources, as well as the construction of a basketball court.
