This Summer I am delighted to be have been offered the opportunity to travel to Kisiizi, Southwest Uganda with UCD Volunteers Overseas Charity as part of my elective placement. I will be travelling with a team of fellow Physiotherapy Students, a chartered Physiotherapist, Medicine, Nutrition and Nursing Students in July 2019. Here I will be volunteering in Kisiizi Hospital working on disability awareness, education and physiotherapy programmes for family and children with physical disablities. Our team will provide therapy to children with conditions such as Cerebral Palsy and we will be working closely with familie to provide the support and education to continue this much needed therapy at home. Each volunteer is asked to raise a minimum of 1400euro, all of which will go directly to the project. These funds will support our team to carry out the therapies and education for one month, as well as the cost of project resources, a rehabilitation camp for children with Cerebral Palsy, physiotherapy equipment, prosthes, wheel chairs, walking aids, walking frames, specialised seating,etc. Furthermore these funds will also help to maintain and develop other healthcare resources/services which we hope will continue after the project.I would greatly and wholeheartedly appreciate any contibution, of any size, to make this project as worthwhile and beneficial for the children and families I will be working with.
