Hello everyone! :) This summer I will be travelling to Tamil Nadu, India, with UCD Volunteer Overseas.UCDVO is a charity organisation which runs a year long programme including a 4 week placement sending students abroad to work with communities in India, Uganda and Tanzania. While Tamil Nadu has a relatively strong economy, it faces many of the social and developmental issues present in India, particularly the discrimination of the ‘Scheduled Caste’ who are often excluded from society, education, employment and healthcare. The Tamil Nadu project is being run in partnership with the Nandri Centre, whose main goal is to empower women in rural India who are impoverished and considered 'Untouchacbles'/Dalit. We will be providing educational support and micro-financing aid, aswell as running self-help groups and homework clubs. In 2019 up to 300 children attended the homework clubs run by UCDVO students. Any donations can help UCDVO continue to work with communities in developing their living conditions, health care systems and education systems, and even the smallest donation can make a difference! Thank you so much!! :)
