Hello everyone! My name is Julia  and I'm a second year General  Nursing student in UCD. This summer (2017), I've been given the opportunity to volunteer in Uganda(Nansana)  in Africa  with UCDVO.  UCD VolunteerOversea is a registered charity that carries out development projects in countries such as Uganda, Tanzania, Nicaragua, Haiti and India.  In June, I will be travelling to Uganda alongside sixteen other UCD student volunteers.  We will be working in partnership with Nurture Africa which is a healthcare centre based in Nansana. UCDVO and Nurture Africa will be engaged in a health centre project providing access to Healthcare, Education, Sustainable Livelihoods and Child Welfare for vulnerable families within the area of operation in Nansana. This will include physiotherapy and play therapy with children with disabilities as well as educating the public to help reduce the stigma surrounding disabilities, malnutrition screening, first aid training,  refurbishment and upgrading of hospital facilities. In order to make this possible I have to raise  2,600 euro. I will be organising fundraising events throughout the year in order to generate donations. I would really love to be able to make a difference to the lives of these people in Uganda and also gain an invaluable experience in the field I am studying.  I would be extremely grateful if you could make any donation to the project – no matter how small!
