Hi Friends!My name is Jenn, and I have been granted the amazing opportunity to travel with UCD Volunteers Overseas for my final physiotherapy placement of my two-year MSc Physiotherapy Degree.We will be working with physically disabled children at the Ferrando Speech and Hearing Centre in Meghalaya, a state in the north-east of India. This one month placement will take place in June of 2017, and will satisfy the final requirements of my MSc. Physiotherapy degree, after which I will be able to work as a liscenced physiotherapist.I am beyond excited to be able to do my placement in India. Working with children with disabilities has been my favourite experience so far in my physiotherapy training, and I am looking forward to being able to bring the skills I have learned to a new and challenging environment. Working in a developing country is something I have been interested in since high school, and now that I have developed a more specialized set of skills through my physiotherapy training I am able to apply these skills to improve the health care of communities less fortunate than ours. Movement, activity, and engagement are crucial components of a child's life, and through physiotherapy we are able to target these components to improve a child's quality of life using little more than our own two hands. We will be preparing througout the year, not only to plan the project logistics, but also to prepare ourselves for the opportunity that lies ahead. I truly look forward to everything this experience is going to teach me, about physiotherapy, about the world, and about myself. Each volunteer must provide €2600 to cover the cost of their travel, lodging, as well as to support the running of the local programs. I will be supplying much of the cost myself, but would greatly appreciate any donations towards this great cause. I hope you will take the plunge with me, and support myself and the UCDVO North-East India project 2017.   Thank you so much!
