Hi everyone! My name is Hannah McSweeney and I am a first year Law with Social Justice student in UCD. I have been selected to travel to Somoto in Nicaragua this Summer with UCD Volunteers Overseas. This is a 4 week placement, runnnig from the middle of June to the middle of July. Here we will be involved in educational and infrastructural development projects, whilst working closely with the local communities over there.  UCDVO has been positively impacting the lives of those in disadvantaged communities in Nicaragua since 2007. Past projects have included the construction of health centres, drip irrigation systems, a pre-school, a primary school, aswell as various educational projects and so much more. Our team leader will travel to Nicaragua at the beginning of 2018 to meet with the local communities and partner organisations in the area, to ensure that their needs are met. In order to travel to Somoto in June I need to raise €2,600. This money will go towards the work we do overseas, aswell as training, accomodation, travel, insurance and visas. Any additional funds raised will be put towards developing the project work UCDVO do in these communities.
