I have been lucky enough to be offered the opportunity to take part in the UCDVO Volunteering and Development Education programme 2018/19. I will be spending 4 weeks volunteering in Ruaha, Tanzania next summer. This project aims at eliminating the unfairness of unequal opportunity and at reaching our goal of sustainable education in a world increasingly driven by technology. We have been fortunate enough to have received a great education and I understand that the individuals I will be working with this summer have not been given the same chance as you and I have. It is up to us to help remedy this. Working along with the local community, my work will include teaching compter skills to secondary school teachers, helping to run english classes/summer camps for the children or setting up a library in a primary school. The previous work of Tanzania volunteers has allowed for the transportation of over 700 computers from Ireland to Tanzania, the participation of 36 schools with the training of approximatively 780 teachers, school refurbishment projects and library development projects. To better prepare myself for this amazing experience, I will be following training days and workshops throughout the year. I will try to cover part of the expenses myself but I would be immensely grateful for any contribution towards my fundraising, no matter how small. Every penny will go a long way! A huge thanks in advance for your generosity! - Hanna-Marie xx
