In 2009, UCDVO sent a group of volunteers to Morogoro for the first time. Since then volunteers have continued to work in Morogoro, Mikumi and Ruaha on computer education programmes, classroom refurbishments, summer camps for children, the distribution of books and educational resources, as well as the construction of a basketball court at Kihonda secondary school. UCDVO partners with Camara Education for the provision and set-up of computer laboratories in Tanzania, aswell as hosting computer collection dates in UCD, Belfield. Tanzania is one of the 9 priority countries with whom Irish Aid work with.Tanzania is over ten times the size of Ireland and is one of the largest countries in East Africa. Over 68% of the population is living below the international poverty line  of $1.25 U/S dollars per day.  By educating children and adults in both English and computer skills, we are improving their chance of long term sustainabiity in employment.This summer, I am travelling to Ruaha within Tanzania with a group of volunteers from my university. Having a strong interest in humanitarian work worldwide, this will give me the opportunity to make just a small difference to the extreme poverty facing those in third world countries like Tanzania.
