I have been lucky enough to have been chosen to travel to Kisiizi, Uganda this summer for the month of June with UCD Volunteer Overseas charity to carry out my elective physiotherapy placement. I will be travelling over with a team of 4 other physiotherapy students and a chartered physiotherapist as well as medical, nursing, nutrition and dietetic students. For four weeks I will be volunteering in Kisizzi hospital providing additional services to the hospital and the surrounding areas by means of raising awareness of disabilities, creating physiotherapy programmes and providing care and invaluable equipment to it's patients. We will also be running a camp for children with Cerebal Palsy through which we aim to provide sustainable treatments for the children while also providing the families with education about their child's condition. In order to complete this project we need to raise €2650 each. I will be covering all my own costs for this trip but each volunteer is asked to raise a minimum of €1200 which will go directly to the project to provide resources such as physiotherapy equipment (wheelchairs,prostheses,walking aids,specailised seating etc), educational resources, as well as resources for the camp with the aim of these resources being maintained for the forecoming years. I would really appreciate any donation to this worthwhile project no matter how small it is as every euro will make a huge difference and allow this hospital to enchance its services even more.
