Hey guys!A few of you may know this already, but I and a group of 20 other students from a range of disciplines including Physio, Midwifery, Nursing and Business will be volunteering in a Development Education Programme in Nansana, Uganda next Summer.The project will be in partnership with Nurture Africa- an organisation serving there since 2003 and providing holistic care to HIV/AIDS infected and affected orphans and vulnerable children, as well as supporting their HIV+ parents/guardians. We will be working in a healthcare centre in Nansana, and as a Physio Student, my role will be assisting as best as I can in a rehabilitation centre for children with disabilities.Other projects that will take place include Health Ed workshops and community visits. So far, the placements that I have undertaken have been so beneficial and have served to show that despite the waiting lists and costs, generally Physiotherapy is readily available for even the most minor impairments. In Nansana, we will have the opportunity to provide much needed care and support for those who need it. Though we will only be there for 4 weeks, it will be an opportunity to give something of value that will have a positive long- term impact.For the project , we each must raise €2,650.€1,000 goes towards flights, accommodation and meals among other things.The remaining €1,650 (and any extra raised), goes toward the Development Project which includes buying equipment such as wheelchairs or frames for the children.I'm so looking forward to this project, but without raising the funds, I won't be going anywhere!Please give what you can through the link below.
