My Story

A few years ago, my son Joe, was diagnosed with Dyspraxia.  The medical classification for it is developmental co-ordination disorder (DCD) and it affects gross and fine motor skills, as well as planning and organisation abilities, all to a lesser or greater degree.  Simple tasks are more difficult or take longer – basically, when the brain is processing information it takes the scenic route.  I had never heard of it before, had no idea what it was, how serious it was and what impact it would have on my sons life –scary times for any parent.   As with all worthy associations the Dyspraxia Association receive very little funding from the Government, most funding is received through donations and fundraising.  I’d like to do my bit to repay them for the invaluable assistance and support they have given to me and my family so I am asking you to sponsor me for the Great Dublin Bike Ride on September 24th.  It’s not climbing Everest or running a marathon but, for someone who hasn’t put their bum on a saddle for about 25 years, 60km will be a challenge.  Your sponsorship, however small, will make a huge difference to kids like my son Joe and I thank you in advance

Charity supported

Dyspraxia/DCD is Ireland's national charity for people with Dyspraxia/DCD (Developmental Coordination Disorder) and their families.
