My Story
My name is Aoife Bracken and I am a first-year Arts student at University College Dublin. I have always wanted to volunteer overseas but it wasn't until joining the UCDVO students society on campus that I got a real and substantial chance to achieve this goal. UCD Volunteers Overseas is a registered charity, CHY15856. So after one very long application, a nerve-wracking interview, and a few tears, I found out that I was one of the very lucky students granted the opportunity to travel to Ruaha, an area of Tanzania, in an education based programme next summer. In order to be a full member of the team, you must raise 2,600 euros. 1,400 of this sum goes towards the practicalities of sending a volunteer to their designated country e.g. flights, visa, insurance, accommodation, local transport, and most importantly training. The balance (1,200) is allocated towards each individual projects aim, in my case that is education. While in Tanzania my team will provide computer education for teachers, summer camps for children in order to help with their English language skills, and the formation of libraries. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated and welcome, thank you very much.
