Hi everyone!This year I am taking part in the UCD Volunteer Overseas (UCDVO) Volunteering & Global Citizenship Programme. As part of the programme, in July, I will be participanting in a 4-week virtual voluntary placement with the Ferrando Speech and Hearing Centre project, based in Meghalaya,  India.UCDVO is a registered charity which provides UCD students, staff and alumni the opportunity to engage in a year-long Volunteering & Global Citizenship Programme for the benefit of disadvantaged communities overseas, in response to needs explicitly identified by those communities. Throughout the next year, I will participate in a series of UCDVO Programme Days, including development education workshops, training and team-building activities before and after virtual volunteering takes place. UCDVO have been working with Ferrando Speech and Hearing Centre since 2014. Ferrando Speech and Hearing Centre reaches out to hearing impaired children from all over India. The centre provides vital services aiming for the prevention and reduction of the effects of preventable hearing impairment in young children.  The centre also empowers the families of hearing impaired children to face the challenges in the child’s upbringing. Other services provided by Ferrando Speech and Hearing Centre are Education, Rehabilitation, Vocational Training, a Vision unit, Orthotic, Prosthetic and Physiotherapy unit.As part of the programme, I must fundraise €750 by 31st May 2021. Since the programme will be carried out virtually, there are no volunteer costs so all the funds that are raised go directly to the charities involved in UCDVO.
