My Story

As many of you know, in November 2018 I volunteered in Zambia as part of the Loreto to Lusaka project with the Spirit of Paul McGirr. I loved the time we spent in Lusaka and, so, was eager to get involved with UCDVO when I began uni. I will spend 1 month volunteering in Ruaha where I will be working in a team of fiftteen volunteers who will work to implement a development project in Tanzania in June/July 2020.During my time in Ruaha I will be involved in projects including:1. Computer education and IT literacy for teachers in primary and secondary schools;2. Homework camps for children to provide English language classes and opportunities for creative learning through sports, arts and crafts;3. Support local libraries using second-hand books collected in Ireland;4. Intercultural learning: initiatives which build an awareness and understanding of different life experiences and culturesOver the next 6 months I will be working to fundraise €2650. These funds  cover the costs of the education programme in Tanzania for one month and the costs of project resources such as computer lab set up costs, refurbished computers, printers and projectors, educational resources and teaching equipment. Any donations to this project will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!UCD Volunteers Overseas is a registered Irish charity (CHY15856) established by the late Fr. Tony Coote in 2003 and has since then been working on education, healthcare and community development projects in India, Haiti, Nicaragua, Tanzania and Uganda. In 2020, approximately 100 volunteers from UCD will be supporting development projects in India, Tanzania and Uganda, all of which are carried out in partnership with local communities and partner organisations.
