My Story
Hi, I'm Aisling McDonnell and I'm 16 years old. I go to St.Raphaelas Secondary school and towards the end of 2019 I applied to be a volunteer with the charity Mustard Seed Ireland. Mustard Seed Ireland is a charity dedicated to caring for the most vulnerable members of society in Jamaica, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Zimbabwe, and Malawi. Founded in 1978, it provides loving and lifelong residential care to over 600 children and adults with physical and mental disabilities, children affected by HIV/AIDS, and young mothers in crisis throughout these countries. I was picked by the charity along with 19 others in my year to take part in the 'children for children programme'. This programme is designed to open the minds and help all disabled and abandoned children who are living in first world countries. Throughout the week, the volunteers will be interacting with the children through different activities and will also do a lot of work projects to improve their facilities and housing such as light construction, building repair, painting, etc. In order to take part in this trip I need to raise €2700 which will cover my expenses for the week but will also directly support the children of the mustard seed communities. If you could help out in any way at all it would be greatly appreciated.
