My Story

Hello Everyone,As some of you may know, I am a Third Year Physiotherapystudent in University College Dublin. As part of my course, I have been given anamazing opportunity to complete a four-week clinical placement in the region of Andhra Pradesh, South India with the UCD Volunteers Overseas Society. I will be travelling with 5 otherphysiotherapy students and a clinical tutor. We will be based in an orphanage with the Asha Jyothi Handicapped Welfare Society who primarily work with abandoned and disabled children from underprivileged backgrounds. As physiotherapy volunteers, we will assist the centre and local staff in their primary objective of empowering children with varied disabilities ranging from Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Hearing & Speech Impaired, Polio, and Down Syndrome. We will also be working with the OutReach programmes in surrounding communities and facilitate ‘Special Olympic’ sports days for children with disabilities, education programmes, awareness workshops and training and support for the families affected. As part of this programme, I must raise funds of €2,650 , of which €1,400 goes straight to the project. These funds will support us to carry out the above tasks for one month and cover the costs of project resources such as physiotherapy equipment such as postural supports, wheelchairs and walking aids, training programmes for local staff, and awareness workshops for village communities. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me which I am beyond grateful for. I would be extremely thankful if you could help in any way possible. Any donation, no matter how big or small will be immediately beneficial to these children and their communities. Please click on the link below if you would like to donate to this very worthy cause. If you have any questions or would like to learn more about the project, feel free to send me a message and I will be happy to answer (if I can!)Sincere thank you in advance,Áine
