Hey everyone! This year I am participating in the UCDVO Volunteering & Global Citizenship Programme, a component of which is a 4-week virtual voluntary placement with The Holy Union Sisters based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The Matumaini Centre is a centre for children with disabilities and is run by the Sisters. The centre offers rehabilitation, education, nutrition and livelihoods support. It is a safe space where mothers and carers can come with their children and be given help, advice, respite and encouragement.  The objectives of the centre are to: *Improve health and mobility through diet, exercise and hygiene. * Enable access to medical help. * Empower women who care for disabled children.  * Strengthen the self-esteem of children and carers. * Show them how to support themselves. There are currently around 100 children visiting the centre each day or on a bi-weekly basis and the centre serves 400 families in the area. I will be working as a nutrition volunteer with my project team and clinical tutor in partnership with the centre staff. UCDVO is a registered charity which provides UCD students, staff and alumni the opportunity to engage in a year-long volunteering and globalcitizenship programme for the benefit of disadvantaged communities overseas, in response to needs explicitly identified by those communities. Throughout the next year, I will participate in a series of UCDVO ProgrammeDays, including development education workshops, training and team-building activities before and after virtual volunteering takes place. As the project will be carried out virtually, there are no volunteer costs, with all donations going directly to the charity. Any donation is greatly appreciated and will go a long way. Thank you!
