My Story
Hi everyone. Right now, the people of Turkana, a rural and isolated county in Northern Kenya bordering South Sudan, are struggling to survive a national emergency. Persistent drought grips the region and famine and hunger threatens the lives of thousands of men, women and children. As many of you know, I’ve spent some time volunteering in Turkana, it’s a place I know and love. And so I’ve set up this page, in partnership with Aidlink, to raise much needed funds for simple, effective water and agriculture projects, that will transform the lives of Turkana families in need. I really appreciate your support, no matter how big or small, your donation will help us to reach vulnerable communities and provide the most basic of human resources; water and food. €25,000 will; drill 2 community boreholes – accessing the natural water table located deep beneath the earth, install 2 entirely solar powered community water pumps to ensure consistent access to water, and install 2 x 5,000 litre water tanks, taps and farming irrigation systems. This will serve 2 entire farming communities of 25 families each. That’s clean and safe water, for both household and agricultural use, for around 400 people. We know this project works. In other communities in Turkana where Aidlink have piloted this project, farmers have been able to harvest cabbage every six weeks! With permanent access to water, men, women and children are healthier, safer and more resilient to the impact of drought. Please consider donating today and help us bring water andfood security to people in Turkana.
