Cause
People with a mental health disability are amongst the most disadvantaged in our society especially in terms of housing. They frequently have accommodation grossly unsuited to their needs. Unstable and/or inadequate housing inhibits recovery, frequently leads to homelessness and even suicide. Through no fault of their own and because of ill-founded social stigma and lack of understanding they find it difficult to obtain suitable stable homes let alone maintain tenancies./p>
Response
We make quality, well located homes available to people with a mental health disability. We give them security of tenure thereby conferring a capacity for independent, fulfilling lives.
Projects

Another house in Swords is being developed and furnished during 2017 while we continue to maintain standards in our other 4 houses. Many more are needed, all very costly operations. Accommodation is not just shelter but an independent home providing security in a good environment.

Our focus at present is on ‘one-person-households’ where the greatest need is at present. They are at the bottom of the barrel when it come to the provision of houses.

We will continue trying to encourage others such as Government and Local Authorities to place people with mental health disabilities in accommodation that is suitable for them and conducive to sustained recovery.
