Hi, my name is Lorna and I am in UCD studying maths. Having worked on UCD Volunteers Overseas South India project last year I will be returning to India this Summer with UCD Volunteers Overseas to work as a student leader on their North East India project.Over the course of the year the group travelling to North East India will take part in many training days to prepare ourselves for our four weeks on project so as these four weeks can be as productive as possible.  We will be working in partnership with Assam Don BoscoUniversity in Guwahati and the Ferrando Speech and Hearing Centre inShillong. The project involves volunteers from Ireland and India working incollaboration with NGOs, missionaries and student groups on implementingcommunity development and physiotherapy projects. We will be renovating Anganwadai centres (pre-schools) while also delivering workshops to the local communities, creating awareness raising campaigns, giving language and sport classes. We will be implementing community development projects based on needs identified at the grassroots level, e.g. Literacy, English language, healthcare, physiotherapy, youth participation, awareness raising.Every volunteer must reach the fundraising target of 2,600 euro. This money covers the cost of running the project, materials, resources as well the volunteers travelling and living costs. I plan to fund much of this myself and organise fundraisers throughout the year to fund the rest.
