My Story

This summer I am delighted to have been offered the opportunity to travel to Northeast India to the Ferrando Speech and Hearing Centre In Shillong, Meghalaya. We are a team of 4 UCD physiotherapy students and a chartered physiotherapist traveling in June/July ‘19 for 4 weeks. Here we will be volunteering in a residential camp working on disability awareness and physiotherapy programmes for families and children with physical disabilities and outreach programme with the local community.  As well as speech and hearing impairments many of these children and teens have  other disabilities such as cerebral palsy and down syndrome. As physiotherapists, we will assist the local sisters at the centre to rehab and empower children to become more independent where possible. With your support we hope to provide these physiotherapy services to these children and teens, as well as run educational workshops for carers/healthcare staff. The funds raised for the project are for the provision of physiotherapy equipment such as wheelchairs, splints and other gym/rehab equipment. These funds will also help to maintain and develop other healthcare resources/services, which we hope to sustain and keep functioning once we leave the centre and the project.Below I have set up a fundraising page. Any donations are greatly appreciated, every little helps. Your donation will truly go towards an amazing cause. Thank you!Anna Hogan
